WHO WPRO Regional meeting of international regulators of traditional medicine!
WHO WPRO Regional meeting of international regulators of traditional medicine practitioners was held in Melbourne, Australia in September.
In this meeting, the professional traditional medicine practitioners from 13 countries addressed the current management of traditional practitioners and their good practice, discussing their approach to practitioner regulation and associated policy matters.
As a result, the participants established five recommendations for WPRO members and four recommendations for WHO. Five recommendations for WPRO includes, looking over examples from other member states, enforcing the partnership between stakeholders, checking any changes in policies for the general health workforce, promoting the understandings of traditional medicine to other health workforce, etc. When it comes to four recommendations for WHO, which encourage WHO to give technical support to respective member states, to make a policy dialogue therein, to give support to member states for cooperation, and to work closely with respective institutions to implement the action plans.
Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine (KIOM) and National Institute for Korean Medicine Development (NIKOM) also joined this meeting and introduced “Regulatory Systems for Korean Medicine Doctors in Republic of KOREA.” In Korea, according to「Higher Education Act」and 「Medical Service Act」, a person, who graduated from any university for Korean medicine and took a National Examinations Licenses, could be granted as Korean Medicine Doctor. The Korean participants introduced “Evaluation & Accreditation Systems & Standards of Korean Medicine Education” and shared related information to other members. Nowadays, Korean Medicine Education Accreditation Systems is on 2nd cycle, which gave a lesson as well as an inspiration to other participants.
