NIKOM hosted an Award Ceremony for Brand Naming Competition to Promote Globalization of Korean Medicine
- Among 1,086 participants, “K-Medi” won the first prize -
On Sept 11, National Institute for Korean Medicine Development (NIKOM, President Eungse Lee) hosted an award ceremony for brand naming competition to promote the globalization of Korean Medicine at the Seoul office, and selected “K-Medi” for the first prize.
The brand naming competition continued for three weeks, from July 8 to July 26, where core values of brand naming were presented to encourage Korean Medicine to advance in global market, including natural-healing medicine, human-oriented medicine, inheritance, integrity, and future medicine, hence leading to establish the identity of Korean Medicine and to make a differentiation compared to overseas traditional medicine.
Regardless of age and nationality, any participants could join in the competition and 1,086 names were submitted. After the initial and second evaluation by experts and preference survey online and offline, using SurveyAPP and on-site survey, 4 names were selected for the final evaluation.
As the winner of the first prize, “K-Medi” gained an acclaim for its meaning, as “K” represents the Korean’s pride, which allows foreigners to remember easily like K-pop and K-beauty and helps effectively to promote Korean Medicine in global market.
The award recipient of the first prize, Kim Soo-jin mentioned, “I came up the name with a desire for globalization of Korean Medicine. I hope that K-Medi brand can contribute to globalization like K-pop.”
The second prize went to “K-Medicine,”whose meaning emphasizes Korea as the main successor of Korean Medicine tradition and shows the potential of Korean Medicine going global. Moreover, two names were awarded the third prize, one is “Medi-K,”an intuitive compound word for Korea and medicine, and the other is “K-Medicare,”which connotes that Korean Medicine is not a mere treatment rather focuses on managing a wholeness of the body.

NIKOM is now working on various projects to promote the globalization of Korean Medicine and to support the advancement of Korean Medicine to overseas, and the newly developed brand will be recognized internationally in line with the business activities, including online and offline promotion as well as international events to establish global networking.
