NIKOM Takes Off forthe Globalization of Korean Medicine!

Brand development and website establishment 
for the globalization of Korean Medicine


 The National Institute for Korean Medicine Development (NIKOM, President Lee Eung-se) announced on the 19th of this month that it developed a brand identity of KOREAN MEDICINE HANUI” that will represent Korean Medicine internationally, and created a website for the globalization of Korean Medicine (kmp.nikom.or.kr), a single gateway that aims to establish a brand identify globally as quality of Korean Medicine.



 The globalization brand blends the history and healthy nature of Korean Medicine by combining Dongui Bogam, the basis of Korean Medicine and a globally recognized medicine book; medicinal herbs, the ingredient of naturally healing medicine; and acupuncture therapy for the meaning of tradition and trust. The brand highlights the values of Korean Medicine as a major brand of Korea that expands globally.

 The globalization brand was created as part of the globalization project for Korean Medicine by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. The project started last year with a naming competition, receiving 1,086 entries from the public. It was followed by design development process, and then finalization of design guideline that will guide the usage of the brand as globalization of Korean Medicine.

 NIKOM defined the differentiations and identity of Korean Medicine for the global market of traditional medicine. It reflected in the brand development the values of Korean Medicine, such as the directions it pursues as naturally healing medicine, people-centered medicine, succession and integration, and future medicine. With the aim to function as a platform that supports the globalization of Korean Medicine, the English website accessible for people across the world intends to promote the excellence of Korean Medicine, as well as the latest news of Korean Medicine in the global market, online courses on Korean Medicine, and promotional contents.

 President Lee Eung-se of NIKOM said, “I hope the Korean Medicine will proceed to the next level in its competitiveness and awareness in the global traditional medicine market through the development of the globalization brand and the establishment of the dedicated English website. We will make use of various channels to promote our brand and website to raise international awareness on Korean Medicine.”

 The globalization brand and website will be disseminated to the public through related agencies and government offices of Korean Medicine at home and abroad, online/offline promotions, and international cooperation projects such as international events and conferences.

 Meanwhile, NIKOM is conducting various activities for the promotion of Korean Medicine and ways to enter into the global market. The globalization brand and the new website are expected to support these activities for marketing purposes.
