Among native medicinal plant resources used commonly for Korean medicines, the cassia semen (also known as cassia seed) water extract has been confirmed for its effectiveness in treating gastritis.

Cassia semen, which is usually consumed as tea, is a common Korean medicines widely known by people.  The National Institute for Korean Medicine Development (NIKOM) is currently assessing the effect of Korean medicines on various inflammatory diseases, including gastritis and atopic dermatitis. Recently, it proved that the cassia semen water extract has an effect of preventing gastritis and completed its patent registration.

NIKOM found in 2019 that cassia semen water extract administered in animals with gastritis showed improvement in the damages to the gastric mucosa.
