In response to COVID-19, the face-to-face phase of the project to convert online
Pilot operation of ‘online information center’, and developing online training contents
The Ministry of Health and Welfare (Minister Park Neung-hoo) announced on June 30 that it would convert the project for the globalization of Korean Medicine from a face-to-face format to a online plaftform in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
To begin with, during the second half of this year, Korean medicinal info will be publicized online to be accessible around the world, and an “online information center” will be opened on the website of Medical Korea (english.visitmedicalkorea.com) on a trial basis to publicize Korean Medicine Institutions, various Herbal Medicine products and companies.
The online information center will offer services in 3 to 5 foreign languages, including English, Chinese and Japanese, after a six-month build-up period through December. The website will provide useful information to agencies for international patients and foreigners interested in Korean Medicine using videos and other materials with a variety of information on Korean Medicine.
The online information center will also host online PR meetings, business meeting and webinars for specific countries and strengthen intergovernmental cooperation by publicizing Korean Medicine to officials of foreign embassies and executives and staff members of foreign enterprises in Korea.
To this end, the Korean Medicine Globalization Support Group (National Institute for Korean Medicine Development, Kyunghee University, Pusan National University, Jasaeng Oriental Medicine Hospital and Chungyeon Korean Medicine Hospital) is producing 85 educational video contents on basic knowledge, policies and clinical training about Korean Medicine, and plans to initiate the training and education online on September.
Lee Chang-jun, director-general for Korean Medicine policy at the Ministry of Health and Welfare, stated, “We will do our best to attract international patients and facilitate the interchange of Korean Medicine abroad after the coronavirus pandemic by swiftly switching previous face-to-face meetings of the globalization project of Korean Medicine online. We look forward to the interest and active participation of medical institutions, pharmaceutical companies, and medical suppliers interested in globalizing Korean Medicine.”
