Introduction to the National Clearinghouse for Korean Medicine (NCKM)

The National Clearinghouse for Korean Medicine (NCKM) was established for the supply and spread of the standard clinical practice guideline of Korean Medicine which was developed in accordance with the third Korean Medicine Development Plan. Its English name, NCKM, is an abbreviation for ‘National Clearinghouse for Korean Medicine’, referring to a state-led space for exchange of clinical information and for creation of grounds of Korean Medicine. 

As the representative source for searching clinical practice guidelines of Korean Medicine, the NCKM provides pre-developed guidelines and Korean Medicine guidelines which are currently being developed for thirty different types of diseases, as well as original PDF files of foreign clinical guidelines from China, Taiwan, etc. Specifically, standard clinical practice guideline for Korean Medicine which has passed the preliminary accreditation and which is currently being developed for thirty types of diseases will be provided with summaries and recommendations for better legibility. Two practice guidelines which have completed their final accreditation in 2019 will also be uploaded within the coming September, and others are planned to be uploaded in stages by 2020 as they are accredited. In addition, for the guidelines that obtained final accreditation, expansion tools*, which enable legible format in the clinical setting, have been developed so that the guidelines can be uploaded for free downloads.

As the mecca of creating grounds, public e-CRF which the user can individually design is offered as a main function for higher transparency of studies and stable establishment of data. By improving flexibility of public research in the field of Korean Medicine, and by pursuing the objective of making clinical research possible through gathering cases from primary care providers, it is expected that NCKM will contribute to the vitalization of the Korean Medicine industry and to the creation of grounds of the industry.

In 2019, the system is under advancement to monitor the status of clinical research in the field of Korean Medicine, and is expected to play a leading role in future research on Korean Medicine. Furthermore, a system to verify cases gathered from local Korean Medicine clinics or hospitals and to support the creation of grounds is currently being developed, and a detailed platform will be launched after 2020. DB establishment of medicinal herbs, research center for interaction among drugs, and other functions are to be updated in stages. 

As the National Clearinghouse for Korean Medicine (NCKM) aims to enhance the credibility of Korean Medicine and serves to provide a space for communication of clinical information as well as for creation of grounds, we wish that many researchers and clinicians will actively use our center.
