Annual 2018 WHO-FIC Network Conference to Be Held in Seoul

The 2018 Annual World Health Organization-Family of International Classification(WHO-FIC) Network Conference is a forum for the international medical community to convene on classification systems.

This year, it will be held for six days from October 22 to October 27 at the Seoul Imperial Palace Hotel. WHO-FIC refers to a classification system that can be used nationally and internationally to compare health and medical informatics including deaths, illnesses, medical activities, and disabilities. In international classification are the International Classification of Diseases (ICD), the International Classification of Functioning Disability and Health (ICF), the International Classification of Health Intervention (ICHI), the International Classification of Traditional Medicine (ICTM), etc.

The WHO-FIC selects host countries for the annual conference based on activity and other factors. During the 2015 conference in England, it was decided that the 2018 conference would be held in Korea. Each year, representatives from international committees and experts from all specializations come together for a general assembly, conference, committees, and consultations to reveal progress and current status of research to the international classification community.

This year’s conference marks a notable spotlight on the first meeting of the Traditional Medicine Reference Group (TMRG), which was assembled by the WHO-FIC. The group is expected to review development progress, effective application, and future plans presented by the ICTM.
