Receives MFDS GLP Certificate

The Herbal Medicines Non-Clinical Testing Center under the National Development Institute of Korean Medicine (NIKOM) received the Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) certificate from the Ministry of Food and Drugs Safety (MFDS), being recognized for its non-clinical testing performance.
The Testing Center under the NIKOM (President Eungse Lee) was accredited as a GLP center on 14 Sep, the Center announced on 25 Sep.
A facility receives GLP certificate from the MFDS once it submits and passes the assessment of performance and appropriateness based on the standard operating procedure (SOP), appropriate personnel, and the test result according to the prescribed test method after setting up the facility equipment.
Head of the Center Jeong Yong-hyun said, “Our Center is now able to produce reliable data on herbal medicines toxicity and conduct hazard assessment, since it has been accredited as a GLP-certified facility by the MFDS.” He added, “With this, we will contribute to fostering the Korean Medicine industry by providing the evidence for the safety of herbal medicines, development of herbal medicines products, and conducting preclinical evaluation of herbal medicines.”
The Center , with the aim to conduct research on the safety and effectiveness of Korean medicines, was established with specific-pathogen-free animal lab, cell research lab, and herbal medicines analysis lab, as well as five annex buildings in Jangheung-gun, Jeollanam-do, last November.
