Korean Medicine Fertility Treatment Achieves High Success Rate
Dementia treatment also verified for effectiveness, consistency, and safety
Korean Medicine is now
proven effective in treating infertility. According to the results of surveys
conducted by the Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare, the pregnancy rate
after Korean Medicine treatment for infertility was found to be 24.9% in
surveys conducted by local government from 2014 to 2016. These studies surveyed
1,669 subjects from 11 cities and provinces (20 local governments).
This rate is higher
than the 13.5% success rate for artificial insemination used in Western medicine,
and the average Measure of Menstrua
l Pain (MMP) score was drastically improved from a score of 3.5 to 2.4 after Korean Medicine treatment for infertility. This suggests that Korean Medicine contributes to better women’s health, thus aiding the physical health of expectant mothers after successfully becoming pregnant.
The surveys also
reported a high level of public trust in Korean Medicine regarding infertility
treatment. “Korean Medicine infertility treatment” was also found to be the
most commonly used keyword in news associated with Korean Medicine over the
past year.
Additionally, the 2014
Analysis and Evaluation of Results of Support Programs for Infertile Couples
released by the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs suggested that the
majority of the public preferred and trusted Korean Medicine treatment for
infertility. It was found that 88.4% of women who received in vitro
fertilization (IVF) and 86.6% of women who underwent artificial insemination used
Korean Medicine in tandem.
Furthermore, the Study
on Policy Development for Infertility Treatment Measures and Integrating Korean
Medicine in Reproductive Health Promotion published by the Ministry of Health
and Welfare in 2012 revealed that 96.8% of the respondents needed government
support for Korean Medicine treatment for infertility, and 90.3% were willing
to participate if the government created Korean Medicine treatment centers for
infertility.
Treatment is currently
actively provided to resolve infertility issues based on regional Korean Medicine
associations and local governments. A number of local governments, such as those
in Jecheon, Busan, Chungnam, Anyang, and Seongnam, actively support Korean Medicine
treatment for infertility as regulations regarding support for such treatment
have been approved.
At the same time, Busan
and Gyeonggi-do are especially active in initiatives utilizing Korean Medicine for
dementia prevention. In the 2016 Korean Medicine Dementia Prevention Program
carried out in cooperation between the Busan Metropolitan City government and
Busan Korean Medicine Association, it was found that cognitive functions improved
for long-term participants and levels of improvement were maintained. Various studies
including meta-analyses on mild cognitive impairment and Korean Medicine have
also been published, aiding in the promotion of Korean Medicine for dementia
prevention.
